Job Description

A Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that health and safety guidelines are observed and implemented across an organization. This role involves developing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety, monitoring compliance to regulatory standards, and fostering a working environment that prioritizes safety. The Safety Officer will work closely with all levels of staff to ensure that safety risks are minimized and that the organization is compliant with legal obligations. This position requires an individual with a keen eye for details, excellent communication skills, and the ability to think critically under pressure. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures across the organization.
  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes and recommend action plans.
  • Maintain records and documentation to ensure accurate reporting of safety-related incidents.
  • Provide employee training on safety standards, protocols, and emergency procedures.
  • Collaborate with management and staff to promote a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and legislation.
  • Assess and approve safety equipment and controls to mitigate identified hazards.
  • Oversee emergency response planning and coordinate drills and exercises regularly.
  • Respond to safety concerns and queries from staff promptly and effectively.
  • Monitor changes in safety regulations and update policies as needed.
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals to ensure standards are maintained and improved.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • At least three years of experience in a safety officer role or similar position.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in the workplace.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk management.
  • Certification in health and safety management systems such as NEBOSH or OSHA.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve safety objectives.
