Job Description

An Optometrist is a healthcare professional specializing in eye and vision care, playing a crucial role in providing essential eye services to patients. They conduct comprehensive eye examinations to detect vision issues, eye diseases, and general health problems related to the eyes. Optometrists prescribe corrective lenses, medications, and offer advice on eye health maintenance. They also collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare providers to manage and treat eye conditions medically and surgically. This position requires a deep understanding of eye care, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to ongoing education to stay updated with the latest technology and treatment methods in the field of optometry.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to diagnose vision impairments, diseases, and abnormalities.
  • Prescribe corrective lenses and manage fitting and adaptation processes for patients.
  • Diagnose and treat ocular diseases using appropriate medical and surgical procedures.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery.
  • Offer vision therapy and low vision rehabilitation services to patients in need.
  • Educate patients regarding eye health, disease prevention, and risk factors.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including diagnosis, treatment plans, and outcomes.
  • Perform tests to determine the extent of visual function and visual acuity.
  • Stay informed about the latest in optical technology and optometry practices.
  • Refer patients to other healthcare professionals and specialists when necessary.
  • Manage and maintain optometric equipment and ensure they are in optimal condition.
  • Collaborate with team members to provide comprehensive patient care and support.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program.
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and treat vision-related conditions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and staff.
  • Proficiency in using optometric and diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate patient records effectively.
  • Commitment to continuing education for staying updated on new optometric practices.
