Chief Architect

POSITION PURPOSE:

As the Chief Architect within Bayers Radiology Software Development organization, you will spearhead the design and implementation of innovative software architectures that drive our Software in a Medical Device (SiMD) products as well as our Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) features and associated Data and Connectivity platforms. You will also be responsible for setting the strategic software technology roadmap for Radiology and ensuring that all software development aligns with the architectural and technology roadmaps in addition to relevant regulatory standards.

Your leadership will be pivotal in fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the software development teams. The role will lead a group of architects and cyber-security specialists and you will be a key member of the Software Development organization’s Senior Leadership Team.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Technology Strategy: Develop a common Radiology software technology strategy. Align technology initiatives with Radiology business strategy and organizational goals. Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to integrate diverse perspectives into the technology strategy and ensure that HW/SW obsolescence strategy is accounted for on a portfolio level
  • Architectural Vision: Empower the central architecture team and review boards to drive architecture harmonization. Establish processes for managing scope changes and ensuring architectural consistency across projects. Promote best practices and standards to enhance interoperability and reduce complexity of products. Leverage the architecture team to enhance requirements engineering processes. Ensure architectural considerations are integrated into requirements gathering and analysis. Foster collaboration between architects and product teams to align requirements with strategic objectives
  • AI-Tools and Compliance: Integrate AI tools into the technology strategy with a focus on compliance and ethical considerations. Collaborate with regulatory experts to ensure AI implementations meet industry standards. Promote the use of AI to enhance product capabilities and drive competitive advantage.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of software architects, cyber-security engineers, and software specialists, ensuring a strong culture of quality, accountability, and agile methodologies.
  • Compliance and Governance: Ensure all software development activities comply with industry regulations and standards such as ISO 13485 and IEC 62304.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the software architecture team in the Software Development Leadership Team, engaging with key stakeholders including brand management and alpha/beta customers to gather insights and feedback.
  • Working Relations: Collaborate closely with product marketing, external contractors, and cross-functional teams within Radiology and Pharma R&D. Engage with customers and Radiology regional commercial teams to understand their needs and incorporate feedback into product development.

WHO YOU ARE:

  • Education: Masters in Computer Science or a related technology discipline, with 15 years of preferred experience in SiMD and SaMD software product development and maintenance. A PhD in a relevant technical area is highly preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Clear examples of developing software architectures spanning medical device, connectivity and data management systems that have been avble to stand up to hardware obsolescence as well as changes in technology and customer workflows.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling international, multi-site software development teams.
  • Visionary capabilities to set a framework, and engage others to adopt/embrace defined approach
  • Exceptional leadership and motivational skills, with the ability to cultivate and sustain internal and external networks.
  • In-depth understanding of data governance, compliance, and regulations related to digital product development, particularly in handling patient data.
  • Extensive experience in implementing Agile methodologies and building cloud-based, regulated software solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of radiology workflows and technology standards, including PACS, RIS, DICOM, and FHIR.
  • Strength in being able to work in a matrix organization and effectively influence others
