The Physical Security Manager is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for employees, visitors, and assets. This role involves planning, implementing, and managing all aspects of physical security for the organization, including overseeing security systems, managing security staff, conducting risk assessments, and responding to incidents. The Physical Security Manager works closely with other departments to promote a culture of security awareness and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Security Planning and Strategy
  • Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and strategies.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and vulnerability analysis to identify potential threats and areas of improvement.
  • Security Operations
  • Oversee day-to-day physical security operations, including access control, surveillance, and alarm systems.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services as necessary.
  • System Management
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and monitoring of security equipment, including CCTV, alarms, and access control systems.
  • Regularly inspect and test security systems to ensure functionality and efficiency.
  • Incident Management and Response
  • Develop and execute incident response plans for potential emergencies such as fire, natural disasters, or security breaches.
  • Investigate security incidents, document findings, and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact during security incidents and emergencies.
  • Compliance and Reporting
  • Familiarity with Indian compliance norms such as Shops & Establishments Acts, fire safety regulations, and labour law requirements for security personnel.
  • Prepare and present reports on security incidents, risks, and recommendations to senior management.
  • Maintain records of security incidents and activities.
  • Training and Awareness
  • Conduct security awareness training programs for employees.
  • Promote a culture of security awareness throughout the organization.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, Security Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 8–12 years of experience in physical security roles, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity handling multi-site operations in the IT/corporate sector.
  • Certifications (preferred): Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or similar credentials.
  • Skills:
  • Strong understanding of security technology and systems.
  • Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant security software and technology.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong understanding of physical and electronic security systems, such as biometric access controls, CCTV, visitor management systems, and perimeter security.
  • Proficient in incident response, investigation, and crisis management.
  • Experience overseeing vendor-managed security arrangements and performance evaluation.
  • Ability to work across India, and potentially travel as required. Experience managing multi-location security operations and remote teams/vendors.
  • Experience implementing regionalized or pan-India security programs, including crisis management and business continuity planning.
  • Establish and conduct training and awareness programs for employees, including emergency evacuation drills and security orientation for new hires.

Certifications

  • CPP (Certified Protection Professional) – ASIS International
  • PSP (Physical Security Professional) – ASIS International
  • Fire & Safety certifications from recognized Indian bodies (e.g., NFPA, NIFS)
  • CISM / CISSP – (optional, but valued for InfoSec alignment)
  • ISO 27001 Lead Implementer or Auditor – desirable for IT compliance environments
