Job Description

As an Optical Technician, you will play a crucial role in the eye care industry, providing essential technical support for the manufacture, repair, and maintenance of optical instruments and eyewear. Your expertise and attention to detail will ensure that clients receive high-quality products that meet their vision needs accurately. Whether you are working behind the scenes in a laboratory or directly interacting with clients in a retail setting, your work as an Optical Technician will contribute significantly to a customer's overall vision care experience. You will work closely with optometrists, ophthalmologists, and other eye care professionals to deliver exceptional service and support. Your understanding of optical science and your technical skills will be invaluable in crafting, repairing, and adjusting eyewear, as well as maintaining precision in all optical tools and devices.


Responsibilities

  • Perform precise measurements of clients’ eyes to ensure accurate eyewear prescriptions.
  • Assist in the production and assembly of optical lenses and frames with a high level of accuracy.
  • Conduct quality control checks on finished optical products to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Repair and adjust optical instruments and devices as necessary to maintain functionality.
  • Work collaboratively with optometrists to customize eyewear solutions for individual client needs.
  • Educate clients on the proper care and handling of eyewear to promote longevity and satisfaction.
  • Operate and maintain optical equipment and machinery ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Inventory management and ordering of optical supplies and materials as needed for operations.
  • Stay updated on the latest optical technologies and industry trends to enhance service offerings.
  • Generate detailed and accurate records of service work for each client’s optical needs.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to retail staff concerning optical products.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations in the laboratory and customer service areas.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in optical technology is preferred.
  • Proven experience working as an Optical Technician or in a related field is essential.
  • Strong understanding of optical principles and the ability to apply this knowledge practically.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail for precise measurements and adjustments.
  • Ability to operate specialized optical equipment and perform necessary maintenance tasks.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers and eye care professionals.
  • Capability of working independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to keep up with advancements in optical technology and regulations in the industry.
