Job Description: Deputy Manager-Design

Department: Design & Development

Reports to: Chief Technology Officer

Location: Changodar, Ahmedabad

Industry: Ball Bearing

Experience Required: 8–15 years in bearing design (preferably in TRB, CRB, BB, SRB)

Qualification: B.E./B. Tech or M.E./M. Tech in Mechanical Engineering

Role Objective:

Lead and manage the design and development of rolling element bearings (TRB, CRB, BB, SRB) for industrial and automotive applications. Ensure technical excellence, innovation, and compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

πŸ”· 1. Product Design & Development

  • Design bearings based on application requirements, load ratings, speed, and life calculations.
  • Select appropriate materials, tolerances, and fits for inner/outer races, rolling elements, and cages.
  • Perform bearing life (L10/Lna) calculations and load analysis.
  • Use design tools such as CAD (Solid Edge/SolidWorks/Creo/AutoCAD) and bearing simulation software (Romax, MESYS, or equivalent).

πŸ”· 2. Product Validation

  • Coordinate prototype development, testing, and validation (including endurance, static, dynamic load, vibration, etc.).
  • Interpret FEA and simulation data to optimize design.

πŸ”· 3. Customer Interaction

  • Interface with OEM customers for application engineering and new product development.
  • Participate in DFMEA reviews and APQP/NPD meetings.

πŸ”· 4. Documentation & Standards

  • Prepare and maintain detailed design documentation including 2D/3D drawings, tolerance stacks, and design reports.
  • Ensure designs comply with international standards (ISO, DIN, AFBMA, JIS).
  • Maintain design records for audit and traceability (as per IATF 16949 requirements).

πŸ”· 5. Team & Process Management

  • Lead and mentor the design engineering team.
  • Ensure effective design reviews, ECNs, and change control processes.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and sourcing teams for DFM/A, process feasibility, and cost optimization.

πŸ”· 6. Innovation & Cost Reduction

  • Drive VA/VE initiatives.
  • Explore alternate materials, cage designs, or lubrication methods for performance and cost improvement.

Key Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of rolling bearing design principles
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Solid Edge, Creo, SolidWorks), FEA basics, and bearing-specific software
  • Good understanding of metallurgy, heat treatment, and precision manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949, APQP, FMEA, PPAP processes
  • Problem-solving using 8D, RCA
  • Strong communication and team leadership skills

Preferred Profile:

  • B.E./B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years’ experience in NPD of automotive parts /Bearings like CRB, DGBB, SRB, TRB.
  • Hands-on with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems
  • Exposure to 3D CAD tools (Solid Edge), prototyping sample.
  • Calculation for Bearing Product.
  • Strong in DFM/A principles and cross-functional program management
  • Familiarity with PPAP, APQP, IATF processes
  • Bearing candidates will preferable.
