Job Description

As a Safety Officer, you play a critical role in ensuring the protection of employees, visitors, and the environment from potential hazards. This involves developing comprehensive safety management plans and implementing measures designed to promote workplace safety. Your role requires a deep understanding of regional, national, and international health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations. Effective communication is also key, as you will be tasked with educating staff on safety practices, conducting training sessions, and advising management on compliance strategies. By constantly monitoring and improving safety standards, you help cultivate a safe working environment that prioritizes health and safety above all else.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety policies for the organization.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and standards.
  • Organize and facilitate safety training programs and workshops for employees.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure the organization's safety standards are up-to-date.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety audits, trainings, and incident reports.
  • Develop emergency response plans and ensure employees are trained accordingly.
  • Advocate for a safety-first culture within all levels of the organization.
  • Advise management on necessary safety measures and improvements required.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment is regularly tested and in functioning condition.
  • Prepare and present reports on safety performance metrics to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role in a corporate setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of safety legislation and procedures enforcing occupational health.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for effective safety training.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify hazards and implement solutions efficiently.
  • Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and write detailed reports.
  • Proficiency in using safety management software and risk assessment tools.
