Job Description

The Specialist Medical Microbiologist plays a critical role in providing diagnostic services and expertise related to infectious diseases. Working primarily in clinical laboratory settings, this professional is responsible for identifying microorganisms and supporting treatment plans for infectious diseases through accurate laboratory analysis. The role involves a comprehensive understanding of pathogenic microorganisms, antibiotics, and the immune response. As a Specialist Medical Microbiologist, you will collaborate with doctors, nurses, and public health professionals to ensure patient safety and effective infection control strategies. Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed microbiological analyses and interpret laboratory findings accurately.

  • Validate and supervise the use of laboratory technology for microorganism examination.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laboratory safety and quality standards.

  • Engage in continuous education and research activities to improve laboratory services.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior staff and laboratory technicians.
  • Assist in the investigation of outbreaks and surveillance of emerging infections.
  • Document laboratory methodologies, results, and quality control processes meticulously.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary research and public health initiatives as required.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Microbiology, Medical Bacteriology, or a related specialty.
  • Board certification or eligibility in Medical Microbiology is required.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in a clinical microbiology laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency with laboratory techniques such as PCR, microscopy, and culturing.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration and reporting of lab findings.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document complex procedures effectively.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry advancements.
