Job Description

A Fire Alarm Technician is an essential member of the safety and security team responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems in commercial and residential buildings. This role involves working with a variety of alarm system types, ensuring that all components are functioning correctly and meet regulatory standards. The technician conducts regular inspections and tests using various tools and equipment to identify any issues that might impair the system's performance. The role requires excellent problem-solving skills, precise attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. As a Fire Alarm Technician, the individual also plays a crucial part in ensuring that safety protocols are adhered to, thus helping to protect lives and property from fire hazards.


Responsibilities

  • Install fire alarm systems in both commercial and residential buildings efficiently.
  • Conduct regular inspections and tests on fire alarm systems for compliance.
  • Perform troubleshooting and resolve any issues with fire alarm equipment quickly.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, tests, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Coordinate with other safety personnel to ensure compliance with fire safety codes.
  • Provide training to staff and residents on fire alarm system operation and safety protocols.
  • Upgrade existing fire alarm systems to meet updated safety regulations and standards.
  • Respond promptly to urgent service calls to repair malfunctioning fire alarm systems.
  • Ensure all installations and repairs are performed in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects on new building system design and integration.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in fire alarm technology and relevant regulations.
  • Prepare cost estimates for fire alarm installation and maintenance projects as necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, with technical training preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Technician or similar role for at least two years.
  • Strong knowledge of fire alarm systems, including installation, testing, and maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation accurately.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail in all tasks undertaken.
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes and electrical and fire safety regulations is required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with clients and team members.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to various job sites.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and climbing ladders safely.
