Job Description

The role of an Assistant Nurse in the Outpatient Department (OPD) is crucial in delivering quality healthcare services to patients. This position involves providing direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or doctor, ensuring that patient needs are met efficiently and compassionately. The Assistant Nurse plays a vital role in patient assessment, aiding in diagnostics, and providing ongoing care and education to patients and their families. The OPD is often the first point of contact for patients, and as such, the Assistant Nurse must be adept at managing patient flow, maintaining accurate medical records, and mitigating any complications that arise. This position requires both interpersonal skills and a robust understanding of clinical practices to ensure patients receive the best possible care in a timely manner.


Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient and compassionate care to patients in the OPD setting.
  • Assist doctors and registered nurses with diagnostics and therapeutic procedures.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
  • Manage patient flow effectively to minimize waiting times and optimize care delivery.
  • Educate patients and families about treatments, medications, and care plans.
  • Perform and assist with basic medical procedures and tests as required.
  • Monitor vital signs and report significant changes to the healthcare team promptly.
  • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of examination and treatment rooms.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organized environment for both patients and staff.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure coordinated care.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance clinical skills.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification or equivalent nursing qualification.
  • Prior experience in an outpatient or similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and patient care practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for patient documentation.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to ethical standards.
