Job Description

As a Water Quality Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that water sources meet regulatory standards and are safe for consumption and use. You will be responsible for collecting water samples from various sources, conducting tests to assess their quality, and documenting findings. Your work will involve analyzing chemical, biological, and microbiological aspects of water, identifying potential contaminants, and recommending corrective actions to address any issues identified. This position requires a keen attention to detail, a solid understanding of water systems, and the ability to interpret complex data to make informed decisions. You will work closely with environmental engineers, public health officials, and other stakeholders to promote sustainable water management practices. A passion for environmental conservation and public health will be key to success in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Collect water samples from varied sources including natural and man-made environments.
  • Perform chemical, biological, and microbiological tests on water samples regularly.
  • Ensure all water quality tests comply with local and national safety guidelines.
  • Document and maintain records of water test results accurately and comprehensively.
  • Analyze water quality data and identify trends or areas of concern promptly.
  • Collaborate with environmental and public health teams to ensure water safety.
  • Assist in developing and implementing water conservation and management strategies.
  • Review and interpret environmental legislation relevant to water quality regularly.
  • Develop and use models or forecasts to predict water quality changes over time.
  • Investigate sources of contamination and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders and regulatory bodies effectively.
  • Stay updated on advancements in water testing technology and methodologies regularly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, chemistry, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in water quality testing or related field.
  • Proficiency in the use of water testing equipment and laboratory protocols.
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to interpret complex scientific data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for reporting and consultations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and guidelines on water quality standards.
