The “Engaged Learners Program” offered by the Career Studies Department works with students who are presently not attending school by providing orientation and training that will encourage them to return to school or to employment. The students are in the program for 2-3 weeks at a time and then return home for 1-2 weeks on a continual basis throughout the school year. This position will teach high school courses and assist with student pathways planning. Arrangements for room and board for the successful candidate(s) may be possible.

About The Community

Cranberry Portage is a scenic “cottage country” community of approximately 1,000 people located 50 km south of Flin Flon. Community services include a gas station, health centre with ambulance service, community recreation centre and arena and regular air service (Flin Flon & The Pas).

What You Bring

  • Bachelor of Education Degree and valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)
  • Valid Manitoba drivers license
  • A sound knowledge of provincial High School curricula
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Knowledge of literacy/numeracy and elective course options
  • Experience and design of educational programs for out of school youth
  • Experience working with students and apprentices in Trade related fields
  • Demonstrated experience with establishing relationships to connect students and recent graduates with potential employers
  • Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, Access and Microsoft Project
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Indigenous Way of Life (considered an asset)
  • Experience working in a northern community (considered an asset)
