Job Description

A Structural Design Engineer is a key player in the engineering sector, providing crucial expertise in designing, planning, and overseeing the construction of various structures. This role is vital in ensuring that structures, whether they be bridges, buildings, or other infrastructure, meet stringent safety standards and are able to withstand the forces and usage they will be subjected to over their lifespan. A Structural Design Engineer must possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other engineers, architects, and construction managers to achieve project objectives. The ideal candidate is someone who has a deep understanding of physics, mathematics, and material science to ensure structural integrity and performance.


Responsibilities

  • Developing detailed designs and plans for various types of structures.
  • Analyzing configuration of the basic components of a structure.
  • Calculating the pressures, stresses, and strains to determine structural load capacities.
  • Considering the strength of materials and selecting appropriate materials for construction.
  • Evaluating and advising on construction methods, materials, and quality standards.
  • Collaborating with architects and engineers to integrate design requirements.
  • Reviewing designs and plans to ensure compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Conducting site investigations and providing technical advice to the construction team.
  • Completing project reports, meeting company standards, and reporting to stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and inspecting ongoing construction projects to ensure compliance with the design.
  • Identifying potential design improvements and implementing changes when necessary.
  • Participating in risk assessments and implementing safety measures at the construction site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in structural engineering is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, STAAD, or SAP2000.
  • Experience with analyzing complex structural systems and materials science.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and building codes in structural engineering.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
