Job Description

The Stock Controller in a sports retail environment plays a pivotal role in managing inventory to ensure seamless operations and customer satisfaction. This role involves overseeing stock levels, coordinating with suppliers, ensuring the accuracy of records, and maintaining optimal stock to meet market demands. The Stock Controller is responsible for implementing stock control procedures, analyzing stock reports, and predicting inventory needs. The position requires excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a strategic mindset to efficiently manage stock and improve the flow of goods within the store. The individual will liaise with various departments to ensure the smooth execution of inventory processes, which is vital for supporting sales and customer service objectives.


Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain stock levels to ensure optimal supply for all sports products.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and logistics partners to manage deliveries and inventory levels.
  • Implement and adhere to stock control procedures to minimize loss and wastage.
  • Accurately record and update stock data to ensure information integrity in all systems.
  • Conduct regular stock audits and cycle counts to ensure physical stock matches system records.
  • Analyze sales forecasts and historical data to predict future inventory requirements accurately.
  • Work closely with the buying team to discuss stock needs based on market trends and demand.
  • Resolve any discrepancies in stock levels by investigating and taking corrective actions promptly.
  • Prepare detailed reports on inventory status, stock movements, and turnover rates for management review.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations concerning inventory storage and handling.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on stock management practices and policies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop and refine inventory management procedures.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a stock control or inventory management role, preferably in retail.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to forecast stock demands effectively.
  • Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail in handling stock data.
  • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize them efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to stock discrepancies.
