Job Description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a crucial role in the financial and contractual management of construction projects. Proven analytical and negotiation skills are essential as the position involves liaising with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure the smooth execution of projects within budget and timeline constraints. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing cost planning, estimating, value engineering, cost control, and risk management. They will also be expected to lead a team of quantity surveyors, providing mentorship and ensuring quality and compliance across all tasks. A strong background in construction project management and a keen eye for detail are imperative to guarantee the fiscal integrity and success of projects. The position requires someone who can work under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and maintain high levels of communication across various project teams.


Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive cost management plans for construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and identify any financial risks promptly.
  • Prepare accurate estimates, budgets, and financial reports for internal and client use.
  • Manage procurement processes, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids.
  • Negotiate and agree on contract terms, payments, and settlements with contractors and suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and laws pertaining to construction projects.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of quantity surveyors to ensure the quality of work.
  • Analyze and evaluate financial implications of project design and engineering decisions.
  • Foster robust relationships with key stakeholders, including clients and contractors.
  • Identify, manage, and recommend strategies for risk mitigation during project execution.
  • Maintain accurate records of project financial performance and reporting to senior management.
  • Participate in regular project review meetings to ensure achievement of financial objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in quantity surveying within construction projects.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software such as CostX, Autodesk, or equivalent tools.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and financial management expertise.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for stakeholder interaction.
  • Professional accreditation such as RICS or equivalent preferred but not mandatory.
  • A track record of successfully managing budgets and leading teams efficiently.
