As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, he / she will be an integral part of our team and collaborate closely with project managers, procurement team, commissioning and site engineers, and various specialists to design most suited products, solutions. By documenting your activities and generating comprehensive drawings, documents and reports, you'll provide a clear roadmap of the project journey, aiding in regulatory compliance and showcasing the high standards to which we hold ourselves. As you contribute to training the new personnel, your knowledge transfer will empower others to operate and maintain these critical assets confidently. Your continuous improvement mindset will drive innovation in Design Team helping us optimize our processes and elevate our standards. Staying abreast of industry regulations and guidelines, you'll ensure that our activities consistently meet or exceed the expectations set by relevant authorities. Key Accountabilities

  • Prepare mechanical and/or structural design documentation and cost estimation requirements for various projects related to container handling equipment refurbishments, upgrades, and steel structures (e.g., reefer racks, terminal gate components).
  • Develop Bill of Materials (BOM) and cost estimates for mechanical and structural projects in coordination with the Procurement team and Project Managers within the required timeframe.
  • Execute both concept and detailed designs of mechanical components, mechanisms, and structures.
  • Create accurate and detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of port crane components to support manufacturing and finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Improve existing WCS-manufactured products such as man-cages, pinning stations, and maintenance platforms used in container terminals.
  • Prepare structural modification recommendations, maintenance schedules, and inspection intervals to extend the service life of port cranes.
  • Support the project execution team with the mechanical design of components and systems for equipment upgrades.
  • Review mechanical designs of port equipment provided by OEMs to ensure compliance with relevant norms and standards.
  • Perform and mentor others in mechanical engineering calculations, including motors, gearboxes, bearings, sheaves, and ropes.
  • Verify mechanical system requirements, and conduct independent checks and sizing calculations to meet customer or internal WCS standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering team members to implement life extension strategies for crane structures and mechanical systems.
  • Stay current with industry trends, port crane technologies, and life extension methodologies.
  • Prepare manufacturing drawings and support production oversight when required.
  • Specify crack and defect repair procedures, including applicable welding methods and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with WCS Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) policies in all engineering activities.
  • Promote and enforce the highest safety standards across all WCS operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Act as an ambassador for DP World at all times when working; promoting and demonstrating positive behaviours in harmony with DP World’s Principles, values and culture; ensuring the highest level of safety is applied in all activities; understanding and following DP World’s Code of Conduct and Ethics policies.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in similar works of designing and calculations
  • Experience in the design and analysis of container handling equipment is preferred.
  • Experience of working in project teams on the supplier / OEM side
  • Experience in design review for container handling equipment
  • Experience in design of various mechanical components
  • Experience in 3D design, preparation of Bill of Materials and parts lists

Skills

  • Good communication skills to work in cross functional teams during project development & delivery
  • Ensure the prepared designs meet all Customer requirements and relevant Standards
  • Strong understanding of Mechanical mechanics, materials science, and design principles.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and understanding of FEA software (e.g., ANSYS, ABAQUS).
  • Experience with industry standards and regulations related to port cranes (e.g., ISO, EN13001, F.E.M.)
  • Knowledge and experience in design and calculations, sizing of machinery and components like motors, gearboxes, brakes, couplings, bearings, sheaves, wire ropes, etc.
  • Ability to design parts of mechanisms and components of the port equipment.
  • Relevant technical education and experience including in depth knowledge of crane design, construction, delivery, and acceptance.
  • Ability to analyse Mechanical defects and prepare repair procedures and solutions.
  • Proven track record of leading and managing engineering teams.
  • Excellent project management skills, including planning, budgeting, and resource allocation.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Duration - This is sub-contractor position for 1 year with a possibility of extension based on project requirements.
