Job Description

A Registered Nurse in the Operation Theatre plays a crucial role in the surgical team, ensuring that each procedure is carried out efficiently and safely. This position focuses on preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative patient care, facilitating smooth communication between surgical teams and supporting in delivering a high level of medical care. As an Operation Theatre Registered Nurse, you will be part of a specialized unit, providing assistance to surgeons and anesthetists during surgeries, and caring for patients before and after surgeries. This demanding role requires a sharp mind, calm demeanor, and precise nursing skills to manage the complexities of the theatre environment.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for surgery, ensuring all necessary medical information is available.
  • Assist surgeons and anesthetists during operations with instruments and supplies.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs and respond to intraoperative changes promptly.
  • Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols consistently.
  • Document surgical procedures, patient responses, and all intraoperative data accurately.
  • Coordinate with the surgical team to ensure a seamless flow during procedures.
  • Provide postoperative care and support for patients as they recover from anesthesia.
  • Educate patients and their families about post-surgical care and follow-up appointments.
  • Facilitate the preparation and management of surgical instruments and supplies.
  • Ensure all surgical equipment is functional and report any malfunctions right away.
  • Participate in ongoing training and skill development for optimal theatre performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve high-standard patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room or surgical setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and the ability to maintain a sterile environment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
