Job Description

The role of a Quantity Surveyor in the civil engineering sector is pivotal for ensuring the financial and contractual management of construction projects. The primary objective is to minimize the project costs while achieving the required standards and quality. Quantity Surveyors analyze plans, prepare a schedule of quantities, and manage contracts throughout the project lifecycle. Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough cost analysis to sustain project efficiency and budget requirements.
  • Develop detailed cost plans and budget estimates for civil engineering projects.
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, to support procurement activities.
  • Manage and negotiate costs with contractors and subcontractors for maximum profitability.
  • Assess and evaluate contract variations to ensure control over project finances.
  • Conduct risk analysis to identify and mitigate financial risks associated with projects.
  • Prepare regular financial progress reports to communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and statutory building regulations and guidelines.
  • Liaise with project managers and team members to harmonize project planning and execution.
  • Coordinate with the design and engineering teams to review project specifications and plans.
  • Utilize financial software to track and manage project costs and expenditures effectively.
  • Advise on legal and contractual issues to guide decision-making and dispute resolution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant professional accreditation from a recognized institution or governing body.
  • Proven experience in quantity surveying or financial management in civil engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, estimating, and financial principles.
  • Excellent analytical and numerical skills to manage estimates and budgets effectively.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in project management and financial tracking software tools.
