Job Description

A Patient Administrator plays a critical role in healthcare settings, acting as the linchpin between patients, medical staff, and administrative teams. This position involves managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and ensuring that patient care is handled smoothly. Patient Administrators are essential for maintaining the organization within a healthcare facility, as they facilitate communication and coordination between various departments. They often act as the first point of contact for patients, requiring a professional, patient-centered approach. Responsibilities

  • Manage patient appointment schedules to optimize the healthcare facility's resources efficiently.
  • Act as the first point of contact for patients greeting them in a professional manner.
  • Ensure the accurate maintenance and confidentiality of patient medical records at all times.
  • Coordinate between medical staff and patients to facilitate seamless service delivery.
  • Handle patient inquiries and provide pertinent information or direct them to appropriate services.
  • Process patient admissions and discharge documentation accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Assist with insurance paperwork, ensuring all forms are filled out correctly by patients.
  • Maintain operational efficiency by ensuring office supplies are stocked and equipment is functioning.
  • Capture patient feedback and escalate any unresolved issues to higher management as necessary.
  • Monitor and update patient databases, ensuring all data entry is precise and current.
  • Train and supervise junior administrative staff when needed, ensuring consistent service standards.
  • Attend regular training sessions and meetings to keep up-to-date with new healthcare protocols.

Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a Patient Administrator in a healthcare environment.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to deal with people of various backgrounds.
  • High level of proficiency in using healthcare management software systems.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; an advanced degree or certification preferred.
  • Experience with insurance paperwork and billing processes in medical settings is advantageous.
