Job Description

A Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse plays a critical role in providing specialized care to newborn infants experiencing health issues such as prematurity, infections, cardiac malformations, and other congenital conditions. The position requires a compassionate individual who can handle the emotional aspects of caring for critically ill infants and their families. Working in collaboration with a team of health professionals, NICU Registered Nurses employ their comprehensive knowledge and nursing skills to monitor vital signs, administer medication, and implement care plans tailored to each infant's needs. Responsibilities

  • Monitor and record vital signs, including heart rate and respiration, of newborns.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by neonatologists and pediatricians.
  • Perform specialized procedures, such as intubation and administration of IV drips.
  • Coordinate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to plan and provide the best care.
  • Educate and support parents and families regarding infant care and medical conditions.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate medical records and reports for each infant.
  • Assess the condition of infants and identify changes in clinical status promptly.
  • Provide punctual updates and communicate effectively with healthcare providers and families.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions relevant to neonatal care.
  • Ensure compliance with health care regulations and hospital policies in the NICU.
  • Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment in emergency situations within the unit.
  • Support a nurturing, safe, and sanitized environment for infants in the NICU setting.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Prior experience in neonatal or intensive care unit nursing is highly desirable.
  • Certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (RNC-NIC) or equivalent is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with families and medical staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work in high-stress environments and make informed decisions quickly.
