Job Description

As a Medical Coder, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare industry by ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of healthcare billing and coding processes. Medical Coders are responsible for converting healthcare diagnosis, procedures, medical services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. The codes are used for billing purposes and to ensure compliance with medical and legal standards. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong understanding of medical terminology, as well as an in-depth knowledge of the coding guidelines and regulations. As a Medical Coder, you will work closely with healthcare providers, billing departments, and insurance companies to ensure proper documentation and transaction of healthcare services.


Responsibilities

  • Accurately translate complex medical procedures and diagnoses into standardized codes.
  • Review medical records and charts to ensure accuracy and completeness in coding.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and guidelines.
  • Work closely with healthcare professionals to obtain additional documentation when required.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in coding standards and healthcare regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with medical coding policies and quality assurance standards.
  • Assist in resolving complex coding-related issues and discrepancies with billing staff.
  • Conduct detailed audits on previously coded documents and records to ensure accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with insurance companies to validate claims submissions.
  • Train new coding staff and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Utilize coding software and electronic medical records for efficient workflow.
  • Generate reports related to coding accuracy, claims processing, and reimbursement outcomes.

Requirements

  • Certification as a Certified Medical Coder (CPC, CCA, or equivalent) is required.
  • Proven experience in medical coding for at least two years is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and guidelines.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records and medical coding software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare reimbursement systems.
