Business Need / Purpose of Role

The Marine Surveyor - Survey & Inspection reporting to the Survey & Inspection Manager based out of Dubai, UAE shall be responsible to independently manage and execute a broad range of marine surveys, including P&I, H&M, cargo inspections, and bunker-related assessments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, hands-on operational experience, and a client-centric approach to service delivery. This role requires a high degree of professionalism, technical accuracy, and the ability to represent the company in a confident and solutions-driven manner.

Objectives & Measurement – Key Responsibilities

Survey Operations:

  • Conduct Marine, P&I, Hull & Machinery (H&M), and cargo surveys with minimal supervision.
  • Carry out bunker-related operations including Bunker Quantity Surveys (BQS), Onboard Quantity Surveys (OBQ), and On/Off Hire surveys.
  • Ensure thorough planning and execution of each job with attention to operational safety, accuracy, and time sensitivity.
  • Provide expert recommendations and guidance to clients during and post-survey.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Deliver comprehensive, high-quality reports within 3 days of survey completion, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Maintain full documentation and photographic evidence to support all findings and recommendations.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, health, and safety requirements while working on board or at port facilities.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients by addressing technical queries, providing professional opinions, and ensuring proactive communication throughout the survey process.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen client relationships and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to support client retention and service expansion efforts.

Business Development & Commercial Support:

  • Actively identify opportunities during port calls for cross-selling additional services (e.g., ship chandelling, crew services, technical inspections).
  • Support billing, estimation, and cost-recovery processes by ensuring accurate job scope definitions and financial alignment.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of marine services through feedback, field insights, and process optimization suggestions.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Competent user of the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Being able to communicate verbally/writing in a clear and concise manner.
  • Balance multiple tasks, changing priorities & operate within a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Good interpersonal relationship in managing people/sub-ordinates, planning, organizing.
  • Excellent attention to minute details.
  • Self-driven, organized, good communication skills.

Education, Qualifications, Certifications, And Licenses

  • Minimum 3–5 years of proven experience as a Marine Surveyor in a commercial or consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of international marine surveying practices, cargo handling, and bunker operations.
  • Background in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Naval Architecture, or related maritime discipline is required. An IBIA certification would be an added advantage.
  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments concurrently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, client-focused mindset.
  • Familiarity with reporting software, Microsoft Office Suite, and marine documentation tools.
  • UAE driving license shall be desirable.
