Job Description

An HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Officer is responsible for ensuring that workplace safety standards are met and maintained. This role is crucial in minimizing accidents and promoting a culture of safety in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and engineering. HSE Officers are tasked with developing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. They work closely with management, employees, and external bodies to implement effective safety practices and drive continuous improvements. An HSE Officer must be detail-oriented, proactive, and have a strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations to succeed in this role.


Responsibilities

  • Developing comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures for the workplace.
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Investigating accidents and incidents to determine their root causes.
  • Providing training on various aspects of health and safety to all employees.
  • Monitoring the implementation of safety measures and suggesting improvements.
  • Ensuring that all safety equipment is properly maintained and available.
  • Collaborating with management to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
  • Preparing detailed reports on safety performance and compliance issues.
  • Promoting a culture of safety awareness across the organization.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of current health and safety regulations.
  • Participating in emergency response planning and drills.
  • Coordinating with external agencies for audits and certifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a health and safety role.
  • Thorough understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Certification in NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent health and safety qualifications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective training.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to solve complex problems.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to safety issues.
