Job Description

The HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that the workplace complies with occupational health and safety guidelines. As a key figure in promoting a safe and healthy work environment, the HSE Officer develops, implements, and monitors programs and initiatives that safeguard the well-being of employees and the community. Working across various industries, the HSE Officer is responsible for identifying potential hazards, conducting site inspections, and ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to. This role also includes providing training to staff, aiding in the investigation of incidents, and keeping thorough records as required by regulations. With a strong focus on reducing risks and preventing accidents, the HSE Officer is crucial in fostering a culture of safety within the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement health, safety, and environmental programs and initiatives.
  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments of workplace environments.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Monitor workplace practices and procedures to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Conduct training sessions and workshops for employees on safety protocols.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and accidents to determine cause and prevention methods.
  • Prepare reports and maintain documentation related to safety inspections and violations.
  • Collaborate with management to enhance workplace health and safety culture.
  • Advise on the latest developments in health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Provide guidance and support during emergency situations and safety drills.
  • Oversee waste management and promote sustainable environmental practices.
  • Develop safety policies and update them as necessary based on new regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health, safety management, or a related field.
  • Certification in NEBOSH, IOSH, or other recognized health and safety programs.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an HSE Officer or similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of HSE legislation and regulations within the industry.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills for training and policy communication purposes.
  • Proven ability to conduct investigations and suggest preventative measures.
