Job Description

An HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of employees, the public, and the environment. This position is integral to the successful implementation and maintenance of health, safety, and environmental plans within a company. The HSE Engineer applies engineering principles and best practices to identify potential hazards and design effective solutions to mitigate them. They are responsible for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, conducting risk assessments, and developing policies to prevent accidents, injuries, and environmental damage. This role demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments to enhance the safety culture of the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential safety and environmental hazards.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal HSE regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate workplace environments and practices for adherence to HSE standards.
  • Provide expert guidance and training to staff on health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes.
  • Design and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence of accidents or incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of health, safety, and environmental activities.
  • Collaborate with management to integrate HSE considerations into business decisions.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to ensure ongoing compliance and improvement.
  • Develop emergency response plans and procedures for various operational scenarios.
  • Liaise with external agencies and bodies for consultation on HSE-related matters and compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in HSE engineering or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of training and guiding staff effectively.
  • Proficient in using HSE management software and tools for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Certification in HSE-related programs or courses is highly desirable.
