Job Description

A Health and Safety Officer plays a vital role in ensuring workplace safety and compliance with health regulations. Their primary focus is to provide a safe and healthy work environment by implementing and managing safety protocols, conducting regular inspections, and fostering a culture of safety among employees. The role demands a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and a deep understanding of safety and health standards. The Health and Safety Officer is also responsible for training employees on safety practices and evaluating the effectiveness of safety programs. Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify workplace hazards.
  • Develop safety protocols in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Facilitate training sessions to educate staff on safety practices and policies.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to determine root causes and preventative measures.
  • Maintain detailed records of safety-related activities and reports for compliance.
  • Collaborate with management to implement safety improvements and initiatives.
  • Ensure all safety equipment and materials are available and in good condition.
  • Update and enforce company-wide health and safety policies regularly.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and procedures.
  • Communicate safety-related updates and information to all employees effectively.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills and evaluate their effectiveness.
  • Provide recommendations to improve workplace safety and health standards continually.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field required.
  • Proven experience as a Health and Safety Officer in an industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to train and educate staff.
  • Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and implement effective safety measures.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety, such as NEBOSH, is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve safety-related issues promptly.
