The Drilling Engineer Lead will direct and lead a team of drilling engineers to ensure timely design, preparation and endorsement of all the well programs for drilling/re-entry/P&A phases to meet company policies and standards and incorporating application of drilling engineering the best procedures and practises, while ensuring safety and integrity are maintained at the highest standards.

Drilling Engineer Lead

(Long-term Assignment for 3 years)

Please note that this role will report into the central team of ADNOC Group and they will also participate in the recruitment process.

In This Role You Will

  • Leads and supervises the drilling engineering team to ensure timely design and preparation of all programs for Drilling, Re-Entry and P&A wells
  • Review and endorse all well designs, specifications, technical reports, and all drilling programs/ instructions
  • Ensures wells are constructed with maximum possible quality and placed within required reservoirs and attain maximum geological information and productivity.
  • Provides Drilling Engineering guidance and assistance
  • Reviews and approves well construction programs to assure satisfying life cycle requirements and partners satisfaction.
  • Initiates special procedures for any critical operations.
  • Oversees risk assessments and the preparation for non-routine operations and activities.
  • Co-ordinates with drilling fluid & cement engineering team in order to optimize slurry design, pumping method and finalize the contingency plans and services/materials team to plan for surface and bottom hole equipment. Support drilling technology / drilling services in contracts/tendering process (SOW preparation, technical evaluation etc.).
  • Coordinates in the pre-planning with respective Asset units (FD) and major contractors and seeks their views/proposals to minimize cost.
  • Reviews, analyses, and benchmarks well cost & duration for assigned rigs, compare with historical data and recommend actions to improve drilling performance.
  • Oversees and endorses Drilling input into Budget and Business Planning activities.

Operational Plans

  • Develop consistent and realistic long and short term operational plans and manage the implementation of plans
  • Budgets and Operational Plans
  • Develop and manage the Department annual budget
  • Supervise expenditure against approved Department budget on a regular basis; investigate, highlight and reconcile any significant variances to ensure effective performance and cost control.

Policies, Systems. Processes & Procedures

  • Develop and implement appropriate Department policies, processes, systems, standards, procedures and internal controls, Company guidelines

Performance Management

  • Supply to the development of the Divisions KPls and ensure proper cascade of the Performance objectives
  • Manage the implementation of the Company Performance Management System
  • Develop knowledge, competencies and innovative spirit in the Department and support the establishment of Personal Development Plans (PDPs)
  • Succession Planning and Talent pipeline

Organisation Structure and Development

  • Review, develop and recommend the appropriate organisation structure for the Department

Risk Management

  • Supply and support establishment of a Corporate Integrated Risk Management System within the Department, while identifying and assessing relevant domain risks and implement measures to lead and mitigate all identified risks.

What You Will Need To Be Successful

  • At least 15 years proven experience within Oil & Gas Industry
  • Excellent eye for business and performance management
  • Able to stimulate the JV/ the operator to adopt continuous improvement
  • Able to link the JVs purpose with the overall business strategy

Leadership & people leading skills

  • Strong relationship skills to successfully influence the JV/ the operator
  • Leading and manage connectivity and relationships at all levels that are interacting with the JV/ operator
  • Able to build capability in shareholder team and with asset management peers

Technical skills

  • Excellent understanding of risk assessment and exposure management
  • Solid Wells engineering and operations Experience.
  • Good understanding of compliance requirements with regards to JVs
  • Master skill or equivalent experience in drilling engineering well design, and delivering well activity planning requirements
  • Applies wells standards, procedures and practices as well as appropriate engineering workflow and tools in projects of the JV
  • Review Wells performance KPIs in relation to performance contracts
  • Able to lead multiple activities and to quickly respond to changing business priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
  • Prioritize work in a high activity environment.
  • Experienced with Microsoft office suite
