The Finance Department is responsible for managing all financial aspects of Expo City. The department functions include planning, organizing, auditing, accounting for and controlling finances, as well as reporting and producing financial statements.
The job purpose of a Director of Financial Reporting involves overseeing and managing all aspects of financial reporting within an organization. This role is crucial for ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of financial statements and other financial reports, maintaining the financial health and integrity of an organization. It also plays a critical role in strategic planning, risk management, and internal communication with key stakeholders.
The main responsibilities for the role include:
Spearhead overall financial reporting and consolidation, ensuring accuracy and integrity of the financial information across the organization.
Create and prepare presentations and materials for periodic executive meetings.
As the main point of contact for all matters related to financial performance, providing insights and updates to both senior internal and external stakeholders.
Review and manage the financial performance of EXPO entities and various organizational functions, implementing improvements where required.
Operational Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation and distribution of financial reports, adhering to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other applicable regulations.
Develop and refine management reporting that provide critical financial data to support executive decision-making.
Establish and enforce robust internal controls over financial reporting to safeguard data integrity and ensure adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate effectively with both internal and external auditors during financial audits, facilitating smooth processes and compliance with accounting and auditing standards.
Maintain up to date knowledge of evolving accounting standards and regulations to guarantee organizational compliance.
Manage the implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and integration with other systems and upkeep of the chart of accounts tailored to organizational needs.
Conduct regular reviews of departmental budgets, providing monthly analysis and reporting on variances to guide fiscal adjustments.
Direct the preparation and analysis of management reporting and profit and loss statements for specific business units and functions.
Oversee financial recognition, treatment, and valuation of assets within EXPO city, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
Continuously develop, refine, and enforce the Cost Allocation Methodology to optimize financial operations.
Manage and optimize General Ledger and project accounting processes, enhancing financial clarity and accountability.
People Responsibilities:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of financial reporting professionals, setting clear goals and providing both strategic guidance and operational support.
Foster a culture of excellence within the team, ensuring effective line management and direct oversight of financial reporting staff.
Regularly set objectives, assess performance, and address personnel issues to maintain a motivated and skilled workforce.
Ensure continuous professional development of staff through targeted training programs and learning opportunities, keeping the team aligned with industry best practices.
Act as a role model and leader, promoting a collaborative and proactive approach to work within the division and across organizational boundaries, engaging with key stakeholders to build a unified financial strategy.
Knowledge, Qualifications and Skills required:
Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and other relevant financial regulations.
Deep knowledge of accounting principles, finance, budgeting, cost control principles, and Automated Financial Reporting Systems.
Understanding of the industry, and the ability to apply financial knowledge strategically to business needs and strategy.
Awareness of the legal standards and compliance requirements specific to financial reporting in the industry and region of operation.
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
Extensive experience in financial reporting or a related field, often requiring a minimum of 12+ years, with several years in a management or leadership role.
Strong ability to lead and manage a team, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
High-level analytical and problem-solving skills to assess financial reports, interpret data, and make informed decisions.
Excellent oral and written communication skills for explaining financial data to non-financial personnel, stakeholders, and external parties.
Expertise in financial software and systems, such as ERP systems, and advanced skills in Excel and other data analysis tools.
Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in financial reporting.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a strong capability to meet tight deadlines.
Capability to think strategically and integrate strategic business planning with financial reporting.
High ethical standards and professionalism, with a commitment to maintaining integrity and confidentiality in financial reporting.
Desirable:
A master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or Finance can be an advantage.
Certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is highly desirable.
