Job Description

The Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) Technician plays a vital role in the healthcare system by ensuring high standards of sterilization and equipment management are maintained at all times. As a CSSD Technician, you will be responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, processing, assembling, and sterilizing of medical instruments. You will play a crucial part in maintaining the overall hygiene of medical facilities and ensuring patient safety by controlling infection risks. This position requires a keen attention to detail, the ability to follow precise protocols, and the capability to operate a variety of sterilization equipment. Your contributions significantly impact the smooth operation of medical procedures and the wellbeing of patients and staff alike.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper cleaning and sterilization of medical instruments and equipment.
  • Follow infection control procedures to prevent contamination and maintain hygiene.
  • Inspect and test sterilization equipment for efficient and effective functionality.
  • Document processes and inventory in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Operate sterilizers, washers, and other decontamination apparatus correctly.
  • Perform quality checks to ensure all sterile products meet health standards.
  • Handle and dispose of biohazard waste according to prescribed guidelines.
  • Collaborate with medical staff to ensure timely availability of supplies.
  • Assist in training new staff members in sterilization procedures.
  • Prepare and pack instrument sets for surgery with accuracy and precision.
  • Stay updated on new sterilization techniques and industry best practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required for this technician role.
  • Certification in sterile processing technology is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare sterilization department.
  • Strong understanding of infection control and sterilization practices needed.
  • Ability to operate and troubleshoot autoclaves and sterilization equipment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
  • Good communication skills to interact with medical and support staff.
