Job Description

The Assistant Operations Manager – Transport plays a pivotal role within the transport department, supporting the Operations Manager in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of transport activities. This position is essential for coordinating logistics, managing personnel, and maintaining high standards of safety and service delivery. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of fleet management, a strategic approach to operational workflow, and excellent leadership skills to drive team performance. In this role, you will be tasked with optimizing routing and scheduling, addressing client and staff concerns, and leading initiatives to enhance overall operational efficiency. By effectively liaising with various stakeholders, you will help create an environment where productivity thrives, and targets are consistently met. This position requires a proactive individual with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under pressure.


Responsibilities

  • Assist the Operations Manager in daily transport department activities and decisions.
  • Coordinate scheduling and routing to maximize fleet efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Support the development and implementation of transport policies and procedures.
  • Monitor transportation costs and generate reports for management review regularly.
  • Ensure compliance with all transportation regulations and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to address operational challenges promptly and effectively.
  • Lead staff meetings and training sessions to promote professional development.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients by addressing service-related issues.
  • Oversee the maintenance schedule of vehicles to minimize downtime occurrences.
  • Analyze data from transport activities to identify areas for improvement and growth.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure high standards of service delivery.
  • Provide support in the recruitment and development of transport staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a transport management role preferred.
  • Strong leadership skills with an ability to manage and motivate a team.
  • Proficiency in using transportation management systems and relevant software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills to facilitate collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Solid understanding of transport regulations, safety standards, and fleet management.
  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions to improve operations.
