An Anesthesia Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare team, primarily assisting anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists in delivering safe and effective anesthesia care. As an integral part of the operating room environment, an Anesthesia Technician ensures all anesthesia equipment is functioning correctly and is prepared according to each surgical procedure's specific requirements. The role requires a deep understanding of medical equipment, aseptic techniques, and patient care standards. In addition to technical skills, the Anesthesia Technician must possess strong organizational abilities and effective communication skills to coordinate with various healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, compassionate, and capable of working efficiently in high-pressure situations to support the surgical team in delivering optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up anesthesia equipment and supplies prior to surgical procedures.
• Assist anesthesiologists with monitoring patient vitals during operative care.
• Ensure all anesthetic equipment is sterilized and maintained per protocols.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to determine equipment needs for surgeries.
• Monitor and restock anesthesia carts and records supplies used post-procedure.
• Provide technical support for solving possible equipment malfunctions during surgeries.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of anesthesia procedures and supplies used.
• Elicit and record pre-procedure patient health and anesthesia history data.
• Assist in the transfer and positioning of patients for anesthesia administration.
• Calibrate anesthesia machines and devices to ensure proper functionality.
• Collect specimens for laboratory tests before and during anesthesia administration.
• Perform clerical duties, including scheduling and tracking anesthesia equipment repairs.

Requirements

• An associate’s degree or a certificate program in anesthesia technology.
• Previous experience as an anesthesia technician or in a related healthcare role.
• Strong knowledge of anesthesia equipment sterilization procedures and techniques.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for patient and team interactions.
• Certification from a recognized anesthesia technology certifying body is desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to handle high-stress situations in the operating room.
