Job Description

A Used Car Purchaser plays a critical role in the automotive industry by sourcing and acquiring pre-owned vehicles for sale. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong negotiation skills, and an in-depth understanding of the automotive market. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cars and a thorough understanding of market dynamics that influence used car prices and demand. Responsibilities include evaluating vehicle conditions, identifying potential purchases at auctions, dealerships, or from individual sellers, and negotiating the best prices for the inventory. A successful Used Car Purchaser will help improve dealership profitability through effective purchase strategies and foster relationships with vendors, auctioneers, and sellers. This role requires travel and flexible working hours to visit auctions and sellers.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate vehicle conditions to determine suitable candidates for purchasing.
  • Identify and negotiate the purchase of used cars at auctions.
  • Develop relationships with vendors, auctioneers, and individual sellers.
  • Review market trends and adjust purchase strategies accordingly.
  • Ensure all purchased vehicles meet the dealership’s quality standards.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all transactions and inventory details.
  • Coordinate with management to align purchases with sales goals.
  • Travel to various locations to inspect potential purchases in person.
  • Represent the dealership’s interests in a professional manner at all times.
  • Provide detailed reports on purchase activities and market conditions.
  • Assist in developing purchasing policies to maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education is a plus.
  • Proven experience in automotive sales or purchasing preferred.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics and specifications.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel frequently and work flexible hours, including weekends.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is mandatory.
  • Proficient in using software for tracking inventory and transactions.
