External Job Description

Provide hands-on technical support to the Test & Development team across the P-series engine programmes (P10i, P80i, P145i, P220i) — engine build and assembly, test-rig setup, instrumentation, test operation, and maintenance. The role is based at the Abu Dhabi facility and supports activities at the Powertech Italy facility.

The Test Technician is the practical backbone of the test team, ensuring engines, rigs, and test cells are built correctly, instrumented properly, and ready to run safely.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Build & Assembly

  • Build — assemble, disassemble, and rebuild engines and test articles to drawings and procedures; manage parts, torque, and configuration.
  • Quality — follow build standards and record work accurately on build sheets.

Test-Rig Setup & Instrumentation

  • Rig build — build and wire test rigs; fit sensors and harnesses; prepare fuel and fluid systems.
  • DAQ support — assist with data-acquisition setup, sensor calibration, and connection checks.

Test Support & Operation

  • Test running — support and operate test runs under engineer direction; monitor parameters and respond to issues.
  • Observations — record observations and flag anomalies promptly.

Maintenance

  • Upkeep — maintain test cells, rigs, tooling, and engines; troubleshoot basic mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Workshop — keep the workshop and test facility clean, safe, and orderly.

Documentation & Safety

  • Records — complete build sheets, test logs, and maintenance records.
  • Safety — follow safety procedures, risk assessments, and configuration control at all times.

Essential

Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical/vocational qualification (mechanical, automotive, or aeronautical) or a completed apprenticeship.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with engines or mechanical assembly (automotive, motorsport, aviation, or marine).
  • Competent with hand and power tools and able to read engineering drawings.
  • Practical, safety-conscious, and reliable.

Desirable

  • 2-stroke / EFI engine experience; test-cell or dynamometer experience.
  • Motorsport / race-engine build background.
  • Basic electrical/wiring and instrumentation skills; UAV/aerospace exposure.

Technical Skills & Tools

  • Mechanical assembly and engine build; use of hand/power tools and measuring equipment.
  • Basic electrical wiring, sensor fitting, and instrumentation support.
  • Reading drawings and procedures; basic fault-finding.

Behavioural Competencies

  • Practical, careful, and methodical with strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable team player who follows procedures and safety rules.
  • Willing to travel and work flexible hours during test campaigns.
  • Takes pride in build quality and a tidy, safe workshop.

Working Conditions & Travel

  • Based at the Abu Dhabi headquarters, working primarily in the engine test facility and workshop.
  • Frequent international travel — primarily to the Powertech Italy facility (multiple trips per quarter, with extended on-site periods during build, test, and integration), plus customer, supplier, and field-trial sites in the UAE and internationally.
  • Predominantly hands-on work in workshops and test cells; manual handling and use of tools and test equipment.
