Job Description

JDR Cables are currently recruiting for a Technical Sales Engineer to provide technical support to the sales and tendering teams in liaison with the client to influence the client requirements and to ensure that JDR provides a technical offer in line with industry guidelines and client requirements. The main focus of the role will be on Deep Water Dynamic Steel Tube Umbilicals.


As a part of JDR’s Technical resource pool, which is worked over a number of teams serving different parts of the business, this role requires the holder to have extensive Deep Water Dynamic Steel Tube Umbilical product knowledge and experience, using this to ensure alignment between product technical and operational capabilities at key stages in the business workflow as well as training other Sales and Tendering team members.


Main responsibilities of the role:


  • Provide technical leadership for client meetings and discussions to make sure all requirements are fully understood so that a better technical design can be offered to the client.
  • Undertake final review and acceptance of JDR’s technical offer to ensure all client specific needs are met and highlighted to allow for our offer to be well received by the client.
  • Attend, contribute and present where appropriate at key internal meetings to ensure the business is aware of the technical requirements and risks of clients so that the individual departments can allocate appropriate resource to manage the workflow.
  • To be the tender technical specialist for the specific product range and provide advice, guidance and support, to other functions within the company including Sales, Tendering, Design Engineering, Projects and Production, remaining up to date with technology developments.
  • Strive towards full compliance during all engineering and related activities with regard to sound engineering practice and adherence to relevant internal and external procedures, guidelines and standards, where full compliance is not possible ensure all non-compliances are fully documented and communicated to the relevant stakeholders.
  • Generate, check and authorise designs, clarifications, reports, calculations and drawings where applicable during the pre-order phase of a project to ensure a high level of accuracy and credibility in the documents.
  • Liaison with clients and suppliers, and attendance at pre-award meetings where required, including travelling in the UK and overseas for client interface meetings on behalf of JDR Cable Systems.
  • Provide accurate market level assessment to maintain a clear understanding of key product advancement needs, thus allowing JDR to maximise the opportunity to develop the products and maintain our technology leadership position.


To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have demonstrable experience in the engineering, design and delivery of Deep-Water Dynamic Steel Tube Umbilicals which will include evidence of a significant level of technical competence and delivery achievement. It is also necessary to hold a degree in an engineering subject or significant experience gained within the industry.


Alongside strong technical knowledge, technical report writing skills, it is essential that you have the ability to coach, train and motivate business colleagues from various departments. In addition, you must demonstrate outstanding communication skills and proven credibility to customers and stakeholders.


The successful candidate must hold a valid passport as travel will be necessary in this role.
