Job Description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor is a pivotal role within the construction and engineering industry, responsible for managing and overseeing all the costs related to building and civil engineering projects. This position requires an adept professional capable of ensuring value for money while maintaining the required quality and standards. The Senior Quantity Surveyor works closely with the project management team, contractors, and clients to prepare cost estimates, manage budgets, and review contracts. They play an integral part in minimizing project costs and enhancing value for money, while achieving the required standards of quality. The role demands high-level analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to solving complex problems related to costs, contracts, and construction processes.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage detailed cost estimates for construction and civil engineering projects.
  • Analyze tenders and contracts to determine project requirements and conditions.
  • Provide guidance and direction to junior quantity surveyors on cost management practices.
  • Monitor project budgets and ensure effective cost control throughout project duration.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop value engineering solutions.
  • Conduct regular site visits to ensure project progress aligns with budgeted costs.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers and subcontractors effectively.
  • Prepare detailed reports on project cost performance and budget forecasts.
  • Review and approve invoices from contractors and suppliers for accuracy.
  • Provide expert advice on contract claims and dispute resolutions.
  • Evaluate financial risks related to construction projects and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and cost management practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry.
  • Professional certification such as RICS or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Proficient in cost management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills with an ability to lead effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction processes, contracts, and industry standards.
