Job Description

The Senior Officer - Payables plays a crucial role in managing the company's financial obligations. This position is responsible for overseeing the accounts payable processes, ensuring accurate and timely payments of invoices, and maintaining effective relationships with vendors and suppliers. The Senior Officer will work closely with the finance department to streamline procedures, manage reconciliations, and support internal controls. This role requires a blend of strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to handle high volumes of data in a dynamic environment. As a leader, the Senior Officer is also expected to mentor junior staff and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the accounts payable team.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee the entire accounts payable process to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Manage the timely payment of supplier invoices and resolve any discrepancies quickly.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to streamline accounts payable operations.
  • Maintain effective communication and relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts payable and supplier statements.
  • Ensure that transaction entries are correctly recorded and documented within the system.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators and metrics related to accounts payable.
  • Review and approve expense reports according to organizational policies and guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the finance team to assist in month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Identify areas of improvement in the payables process and suggest system enhancements.
  • Train and mentor junior accounting staff to ensure high performance and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable accounting standards and best practices for payables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts payable or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and accounts payable processes.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for vendor and stakeholder interaction.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
