Overview

The Senior Civil / Structural Design Engineer shall be responsible for providing civil and structural engineering design, analysis, technical review, coordination, and construction support for EPC of industrial, infrastructure, and district cooling plants. The role will ensure that all civil and structural deliverables are safe, practical, cost-effective, technically sound, and compliant with applicable project specifications, international codes, authority requirements, and client expectations from concept design through construction and handover.

Your role

  • Carry out structural analysis, design, and detailing of reinforced concrete, precast concrete, and be specialized in structural steel along with RCC structures and Pre-cast element design for industrial buildings, district cooling plants, utility facilities, and related infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare and review civil and structural designs in accordance with project specifications, client requirements, authority regulations, and applicable international codes and standards, including Dubai Municipality requirements, SBC, IBC, ACI, ASCE, AISC, UBC, and other relevant standards.
  • Evaluate structural systems for the applicable design loads and service conditions including loads due to wind, seismic, vibration, equipment, thermal, hydrostatic etc
  • Develop structural designs for pipe supports, pipe racks, sleepers, platforms, steel frames, equipment supports, steel-to-steel connections, and steel-to-concrete connections.
  • Perform static and dynamic analysis and design of equipment foundations for static and rotating equipment, including foundations for pumps, chillers, FRP / GLS water tanks etc.
  • Prepare design calculations and engineering deliverables for buildings, equipment foundations, valve chambers, concrete water tanks, retaining structures, boundary walls, fencing, gates, site security structures, and other related civil works.
  • Coordinate civil site development works including grading, roads, drainage, underground utilities, external works, and interface requirements with other engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare, review, and update Design Basis Reports, civil and structural design basis documents, architectural design basis documents, technical specifications, scope documents, design calculations, sketches, IFC drawings, and other project deliverables.
  • Develop concept, schematic, detailed design, tender, and construction-stage engineering packages, ensuring completeness, constructability, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide technical design inputs to tendering and estimation teams for EPC and design-and-build district cooling plant bids based on conceptual architectural layouts, plant layouts, and tender documents.
  • Review subcontractor technical submissions, including shop drawings, design calculations, method statements, material submittals, inspection and test plans, and related engineering documents.
  • Respond to subcontractor technical queries, clarify subcontract scope requirements, obtain technical compliance confirmations, and support the preparation and finalization of technical bid evaluations.
  • Prepare technical responses and justifications to client comments and comment response sheets to support approval of design basis documents, calculation notes, IFC drawings, and material submittals.
  • Prepare scopes of work for specialist subcontractors and service providers, including geotechnical investigation, topographical survey, and related civil engineering services.
  • Review and interpret geotechnical reports, soil investigation results, topographical survey information, and test results, and incorporate relevant findings into the civil and structural design.
  • Ensure required inspections and tests are carried out in accordance with project specifications, inspection and test plans, quality procedures, and approval workflows.
  • Coordinate with architects, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, project managers, construction teams, consultants, clients, subcontractors, local authorities, government bodies, and other stakeholders to resolve design interfaces and secure required approvals.
  • Prepare and support authority submissions and approvals, including technical discussions with local municipalities and other approving authorities, as applicable.
  • Attend technical, progress, quality, safety, tender, and coordination meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support during construction, respond to site queries, review field issues, and assist construction teams in resolving civil and structural engineering matters.
  • Maintain effective communication with project managers and project stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs in line with project schedules, quality requirements, and project objectives.

About You

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional engineering registration, chartership, or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant civil and structural engineering design experience, preferably within EPC, industrial, infrastructure, utility, district cooling, or building projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering engineering outputs from concept design through detailed design, tender support, authority approval, construction support, and handover.

Technical Skills And Competencies

  • Strong technical knowledge of reinforced concrete, precast concrete, structural steel, foundation systems, retaining structures, water-retaining structures, and structural connections.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, STAAD-Pro, Prokon, and other relevant civil and structural engineering tools.
  • Working knowledge of BIM and drafting platforms such as Revit, AutoCAD, and related design coordination tools.
  • Ability to independently prepare, check, and review design calculations, technical reports, drawings, specifications, schedules, and engineering documentation.

Preferred Experience And Industry Exposure

  • Experience in civil and structural design for industrial buildings, district cooling plants, utility facilities, process plants, infrastructure works, and related civil structures.
  • Experience coordinating with engineering consultants, clients, contractors, subcontractors, local authorities, and government approval agencies.
  • Experience working within EPC, design-and-build, or fast-track project environments from tender stage through project execution.
  • Experience preparing technical inputs for bids, design presentations, authority submission packages, client approval documentation, and subcontractor technical evaluations.
  • Experience working in multicultural, multidisciplinary, and multilingual project environments.
