Job Description

A Safety Officer is a critical contributor to ensuring the workplace remains safe, secure, and compliant with safety regulations. They are responsible for identifying potential hazards, assessing risks, designing robust safety protocols, and conducting regular inspections and audits to ensure compliance with all occupational safety standards. A successful Safety Officer is proactive in implementing safety improvements and emergency response plans. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, great attention to detail, and a commitment to promoting a culture of safety within the organization. With a comprehensive understanding of safety regulations and the ability to communicate effectively, the Safety Officer plays a vital role in safeguarding employees, assets, and the environment.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures for the organization.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure workplace safety compliance.
  • Identify potential hazards and propose effective risk reduction strategies.
  • Organize and conduct safety training sessions and workshops for employees.
  • Investigate safety incidents or accidents to determine causes and prevent future occurrences.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, risk assessments, and training activities.
  • Update and review emergency preparedness and response plans periodically.
  • Ensure that all safety equipment and facilities are in excellent working condition.
  • Collaborate with management to foster a culture of safety and responsibility.
  • Stay current with OSHA, and other relevant local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Advise management on legislative updates and necessary compliance measures.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to safety-related inquiries or concerns from employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a safety officer role or similar.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA standards and local health and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to instruct and guide employees.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform risk assessments effectively.
  • Certification from a recognized safety institute such as NEBOSH is advantageous.
  • Proficient in using safety management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
