Job Description

A Quantity Surveyor plays a vital role in the construction and building industry, focusing on managing the costs and budgets of construction projects to ensure that spending remains within predetermined limits. This position involves working with architects, engineers, and contractors to analyze the costs of materials, labor, and other expenses related to the construction project. A Quantity Surveyor is an essential player in adhering to budgetary constraints while also maximizing the value of every dollar spent. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, a solid understanding of construction processes, and the ability to interpret drawings and legal documents. The primary goal is to maintain project financial performance while ensuring compliance with all safety and quality standards.


Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze cost management strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct detailed cost estimations for various construction-related expenses.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure costs align with project budgets.
  • Negotiate with contractors and suppliers to obtain the best pricing.
  • Review and approve invoices and payments to contractors and vendors.
  • Prepare financial statements, reports, and forecasts for stakeholders.
  • Ensure project adherence to both safety standards and quality regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of all financial activities for audit purposes.
  • Advise on procurement strategy in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Identify potential risks in cost fluctuations and offer mitigation plans.
  • Oversee contract development and administration with an accurate understanding.
  • Monitor and control variations to the original project plans and budgets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in quantity surveying or a similar role.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail in financial management.
  • Proficiency in relevant software such as AutoCAD, CostX, and MS Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation skills to handle contracts and procurement processes efficiently.
  • Understanding of construction processes, materials, and legal standards for compliance.
