Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples from patients using various techniques, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
• Verify patient identity and essential details before proceeding with the blood collection process.
• Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of blood samples to maintain integrity.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of all samples and procedures conducted.
• Observe patient reactions during blood draws and respond promptly to any adverse reactions.
• Adhere to infection control and safety practices to minimize patient and staff risks.
• Prepare and maintain all phlebotomy and laboratory equipment in a clean and functional state.
• Communicate effectively with patients to explain procedures and ease any anxiety or concerns.
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to collect additional samples when necessary.
• Manage supplies inventory and place orders to ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Participate in phlebotomy training sessions to enhance skills and keep updated with technological advances.
• Follow laboratory protocols and standards for quality assurance and testing accuracy.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited phlebotomy program and certification as a Phlebotomist.
• Proven experience working as a Phlebotomist or in a similar role is preferred.
• Excellent manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination are essential for precise sample collection.
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and team members.
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and infection control practices.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Basic computer skills for recording data and generating reports related to specimen collection.
