Job Description

An Optical Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring patients receive the highest quality eye care and corrective solutions. They are responsible for the fitting, adjusting, and repairing of spectacles and other optical aids. In addition to technical skills, an Optical Technician must possess excellent customer service abilities to convey instructions clearly and assist clients with eyewear choices. This role often requires collaboration with optometrists and other healthcare providers to support patient needs, maintain accurate records, and ensure equipment is functioning correctly. Beyond technical expertise, an Optical Technician should demonstrate problem-solving abilities and an attention to detail to guarantee that each patient’s unique vision needs are met accurately.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct precise measurements to ensure correct lens and frame fit for patients.
  • Assist clients in selecting eyewear that both improves vision and suits aesthetics.
  • Perform regular maintenance of optical machinery and tools to ensure functionality.
  • Calibrate ophthalmic instruments to verify their precision in measurement tasks.
  • Greet patients and provide excellent customer service to enhance client experience.
  • Repair and adjust glasses and lenses to ensure comfort and correct vision.
  • Maintain detailed records of prescriptions, inventory, and client interactions.
  • Collaborate with optometrists to understand patient prescriptions and recommendations.
  • Order and track inventory, ensuring optical supplies are well-stocked and up to date.
  • Educate customers on eyewear care, maintenance, and latest optical technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations and safety standards in the workplace.
  • Assist in resolving customer complaints and improving service delivery standards.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or relevant certification in optical technology or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working as an Optical Technician or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of optical principles and precision measurement tools.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills for diverse clientele interaction.
  • Attention to detail and patience to adjust and repair delicate instruments and frames.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team environment.
  • Proficiency in managing records and familiarity with optical software systems.
