Mechanical QA-QC Engineer

Overview

The Mechanical QA/QC Engineer will support the Project Quality Manager in ensuring the effective delivery of the project quality management system (PQMS). This role reports directly to the Project Quality Manager and has a reporting line to the Quality Assurance Discipline Manager. The Mechanical QA/QC Engineer is responsible for overseeing quality assurance and control activities related to welding, piping, static, and rotating equipment, ensuring that all mechanical systems, installations, and materials comply with industry standards, project specifications, and relevant international codes. This role will require preparation of documentation, coordination with project teams, and the active monitoring of quality processes to ensure high-quality project execution.

Roles And Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation of the Project Quality Management System (PQMS) in accordance with ISO 9001:2015 and contract requirements.
  • Implement project quality requirements as outlined in the Project Quality Plan (PQP) and in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Assist with the audit program to monitor adherence to the PQMS and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and report to the Project Quality Manager on the effectiveness and performance of the PQMS.
  • Identify deviations from project requirements and ensure systems and procedures are established to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor and assess the application and effectiveness of the PQMS across all project activities.
  • Support and assist supplier and subcontractor quality plans and programs for any purchase orders/contracts placed, as applicable.
  • Develop and implement QA/QC procedures and plans for welding, piping, static, and rotating equipment, ensuring compliance with specifications and relevant standards.
  • Monitor and control inspections of mechanical materials, equipment, and systems, including welding, piping, and rotating equipment, ensuring compliance with approved specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
  • Ensure that all fabrication, installation, and procurement activities related to mechanical systems meet required quality levels and project specifications.
  • Review and maintain QA/QC documentation, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality records related to welding, piping, and mechanical equipment.
  • Generate periodic quality reports for management review and provide recommendations for improvements when necessary.
  • Communicate with project stakeholders regarding quality-related matters, deviations, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to ensure purchased mechanical materials and equipment meet specified quality standards.

Educational Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in QA/QC for mechanical systems, with specific experience in welding, piping, and static/rotating equipment for manufacturing or industrial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of international mechanical engineering standards and codes such as:
    • ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers)
    • AWS (American Welding Society)
    • API (American Petroleum Institute)
    • ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)
    • ASME BPVC (Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code)
    • ISO 9001:2015
  • Professional accreditation in relevant areas is preferred.
  • Successful completion of ISO 9001:2015 quality auditor training or transition course is preferred.
