Job Description

The HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe workplace and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility. This position focuses on ensuring that all health, safety, and environmental aspects are managed according to standard regulations, company policies, and industry best practices. The HSE Officer actively collaborates with various departments to implement safety measures and conduct risk assessments. This role is pivotal in preventing workplace incidents and ensuring compliance with legal requirements. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and possesses strong communication skills to effectively promote and enforce safety standards across the organization.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
  • Coordinate training programs for employees to enhance awareness of safety protocols.
  • Investigate incidents and near-misses to determine causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare reports and document safety-related activities and findings effectively.
  • Ensure all safety equipment is regularly inspected and maintained in proper condition.
  • Liase with external agencies and authorities regarding health, safety, and environmental issues.
  • Monitor compliance with legal requirements and advise management of any non-compliance.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and conduct safety drills regularly.
  • Develop and sustain a culture of continuous improvement in HSE management.
  • Foster effective communication of safety policies throughout the organization.
  • Provide recommendations for improving safety and environmental performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a similar HSE officer role.
  • In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address safety issues effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with all levels of staff and management.
  • Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
