The Fishing Engineer II is a technical role responsible for planning, executing, and supervising advanced oilfield operations, with a specialization in fishing and downhole tool services. This role demands extensive experience in open-hole and cased-hole fishing, Plug and Abandonment (P&A) projects, and Whipstock/Sidetrack operations including section milling.
Acting as the primary liaison with the client at the wellsite, the Field Engineer II ensures the safe and efficient delivery of high-quality services. The role also involves mentoring junior engineers, troubleshooting complex issues, and driving continuous improvement in field execution and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Lead the planning, execution, and supervision of complex field operations related to fishing and downhole interventions, including whipstocks, sidetracking, and section milling.
Maintain a high standard of safety, compliance, and operational integrity in accordance with Weatherford policies and regulatory requirements.
Participate in safety meetings, JHAs, toolbox talks, and contribute to the development of a strong safety culture.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot downhole and fishing tools; ensure equipment is functioning properly and safely before and after operations.
Collaborate with the R&M team for equipment repairs and participate in Root Cause Analysis for any failures.
Ensure proper documentation of job-related data, including field reports, observation cards, service logs, and failure reports.
Serve as the key technical contact for the client on-site; communicate job progress, technical updates, and resolution plans effectively.
Monitor field data and make informed decisions to improve service efficiency and client outcomes.
Supervise and mentor junior field personnel, providing guidance and performance feedback.
Conduct engineering checks and support software updates or calculations as needed on location.
Maintain effective inventory management and readiness of tools and supplies required for operations.
Support the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives across field operations.
Contribute to team development and training efforts; promote knowledge sharing and capability building.
Skills
Strong technical knowledge in fishing, P&A operations, section milling, and whipstock/sidetrack services
Proficient in wellsite data interpretation, troubleshooting, and job planning
Skilled in using job-specific software, performing basic engineering calculations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client-facing interactions
Strong leadership, mentoring, and team coordination capabilities
High level of situational awareness and problem-solving under pressure
Detail-oriented with strong documentation and reporting practices
Knowledge of HSE policies, quality control, and risk management in field operations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
5–10 years of oilfield operations experience
Minimum 5 years of hands-on field experience in fishing and downhole tools
Proven experience with open-hole and cased-hole fishing, Plug and Abandonment, section milling, and Whipstocks/Sidetracks
Prior experience managing or mentoring field crews and acting as the primary client contact on-site
Willingness to work on a 24/7 on-call basis and in remote field environments
