Job Description

A Credit Controller is a vital role within the finance team, responsible for managing the credit and collections process to ensure timely payment of invoices by company clients. Typically operating within businesses where credit transactions are frequent, the Credit Controller must maintain good relationships with clients while securing the financial stability of the organization. A balance of assertiveness and diplomacy is key in handling various clients and their payment issues. The role includes monitoring customer aging reports, negotiating payment plans, assessing credit worthiness, and coordinating with sales teams. The Credit Controller must also maintain accurate records of financial transactions, ensuring each client adheres to the agreed payment terms. Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the credit control functions to achieve timely payment collections.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of debtors and analyze customer creditworthiness.
  • Negotiate payment plans and terms with clients, ensuring agreements are profitable.
  • Regularly communicate with clients to address payment delays and resolve disputes.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, especially sales, to minimize credit risk.
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports on aging accounts and outstanding payments.
  • Develop and implement policies for credit and collections procedures.
  • Review and monitor credit limits to ensure they align with company policies.
  • Identify areas for improvement within the credit control process and suggest solutions.
  • Assist in preparing forecasts and business plans related to credit management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and company policies in all credit control activities.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide insights to enhance company financial health.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Credit Controller or similar finance role for at least two years.
  • Strong understanding of credit and collections best practices and techniques.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to effectively handle client interactions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data accurately.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a high volume of tasks efficiently.
  • Familiarity with relevant legal regulations and standards related to credit control.
