Job Description

An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a critical role in providing medical support and care in emergency situations. EMTs are often among the first responders at the scene of an accident or medical emergency. Their primary duties include assessing the medical needs of a patient, administering basic care, and safely transporting patients to a healthcare facility for further treatment. EMTs must make quick decisions under pressure, work collaboratively with other emergency services, and prioritize patient safety and care above all else. This role is physically demanding and requires excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a compassionate approach to patient care. EMTs often work in various environments with shifting requirements and must be prepared for the unexpected as well as emotionally challenging situations.


Responsibilities

  • Respond swiftly to emergency calls and provide immediate assistance to those in need.
  • Assess a patient's medical condition and determine a course of action on-site.
  • Perform basic life support techniques, such as CPR, on-site at emergencies.
  • Safely transport patients to hospitals or other healthcare facilities by ambulance.
  • Assist healthcare professionals during the transport and handover of patients.
  • Maintain, restock, and check emergency medical equipment for proper functioning.
  • Document medical care provided and patient data in an accurate, detailed manner.
  • Collaborate with police, fire departments, and other emergency response services.
  • Ensure the patient's privacy, dignity, and comfort are maintained at all times.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families during emergencies.
  • Participate in ongoing training to remain current with medical and safety protocols.
  • Follow health and safety protocols to protect oneself and others during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic or higher level qualification.
  • Valid CPR certification and knowledge of first-aid procedures are essential.
  • Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and decisive in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift and maneuver patients safely.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required for ambulance operation.
