The Role
We are looking for a Junior-Mid Data Analyst to support the development and ongoing enhancement of a new mining intelligence platform. This role focuses on collecting, cleaning, enriching, and structuring data related to the Australian mining sector, with an initial emphasis on data entry and data quality, and the potential to grow into a more senior analytical position as the product and team mature.
You will work full-time as a dedicated offshore member of the Australian Mining Review team, collaborating closely with the sales team, particularly around product demos and prospect needs.
- Data Collection & Ingestion
- Work with existing data scraping tools that pull data from multiple sources (e.g. tenders, ASX announcements, news, industry updates) into structured spreadsheets.
- Ensure scraped data is captured correctly and consistently.
- Data Cleaning & Structuring
- Clean, validate, and standardize data in spreadsheets to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Deduplicate records, correct obvious errors, and apply consistent formatting and categorisation.
- Prepare data for import into the mining intelligence platform (v2 launch planned for late July / early August).
- Data Enrichment & Judgement Calls
- Enrich raw data with additional attributes/metadata where required (e.g. tagging, categorisation, relevance).
- Apply basic critical thinking and develop industry understanding to make sensible judgment calls about:
- Which data points are relevant,
- How particular items should be classified or optimized in the system.
- Collaboration with Sales & Stakeholders
- Support the sales team in preparing for product demos by:
- Identifying and surfacing relevant tenders or records for key prospects.
- Ensuring the platform contains data that aligns with prospect expectations and use cases.
- Respond to ad-hoc data requests from sales (e.g. "find additional tenders related to X before this demo").
- Ongoing Data Maintenance
- Monitor data pipelines and spreadsheets for issues or gaps.
- Support continuous improvements in efficiency and data quality as the product scales.
- Contribute feedback on how tools, processes, and structures can be improved over time.
Note: This is initially a junior-mid, hands-on data entry/data operations role. Over time, as the data function grows, there will be potential to step into more senior, analytical, and oversight responsibilities.
Required Skills & Experience
- 1-3 years experience in a data-focused role (data entry, data operations, junior data analyst, business support, etc.) or strong internship/graduate experience with demonstrable data work.
- Strong proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets), including:
- Sorting, filtering, basic formulas,
- Cleaning and transforming tabular data,
- Managing large datasets with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy when handling high volumes of data.
- Ability to learn a new industry domain (mining/ASX/tenders) and apply that knowledge to make reasonable judgment calls on data relevance and categorisation.
- Good English communication skills (written and verbal) sufficient to:
- Understand instructions and business context,
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (particularly sales),
- Document data decisions and basic processes.
Nice-to-Have Skills - Familiarity with or exposure to:
- SQL, Power BI, or other BI/reporting tools (even at a basic level).
- Data enrichment, data quality frameworks, or simple reporting.
- Experience working with scraped data or data sourced from multiple systems/websites.
- Prior experience in:
- Mining, resources, B2B publishing, or financial/ASX-related data.
- Experience working in an offshore / remote role for an Australian, UK, or US-based company.
Personal Attributes
- Highly detail-oriented and process-driven.
- Curious and willing to learn about the mining industry and the product.
- Comfortable doing repetitive, structured work while maintaining high quality.
- Proactive in flagging data issues, inconsistencies, and potential improvements.
- Able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines, especially around key dates such as product demos and platform releases.
- A positive team player who can work independently day-to-day, while remaining responsive to the clients needs.
Work Schedule
- Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm flexible
Location
- Open for Hybrid and Homebased work arrangement.
Note: As part of our recruitment process, we conduct a background check on all hired candidates. Please ensure that all required documents are prepared and submitted promptly.
