The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Organization within Northern Trust Technology provides critical functions to the enterprise managing all virtual desktops. In addition, the VDI organization provides central architecture, decommissioning and deployment of virtual desktops.
We have an exciting opportunity for a VDI Engineer who is responsible for the successful design, planning, and deployment of Virtual Desktop technologies used by Northern Trust. This is highly technical and hands-on role. The VDI Engineer will lead the development, specification and communication of VDI architectures used by multiple business or application systems. As a VDI Engineer you will provide in-depth technical consultation to the clients, partners, and IT Management to assist with develop plans and directions to assure the integration of corporate business area requirements. Provide training to other application or infrastructure staff. Will assist and support initiatives to improve and enhance the virtual desktop ecosystem.
- Understands decision process issues of technology choice, such as hardware capacities, response time, data interfacing, client server communication, etc.
- Provides technical expertise.
- Promotes sharing of expertise through consulting, presentations, and documentations, etc.
- Evaluates and selects from existing and emerging technologies those options best fitting business/project needs.
- At least 7 to 10 years’ experience in information system architecture methodologies and work experience.
- Excellent consultative and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with client, partner, and IT management and staff.
- Strong analytical ability.
- Knowledge of application or system programming languages
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge and experience with Citrix Suite of products like XenApp, XenDesktop, Storefront, Web interface , NetScaler VPX, Citrix DaaS, Citrix Cloud Gateway Service
- Good knowledge and experience with Active Directory, GPO, windows server OS, SCCM/Intune & App-V
- Good knowledge and experience to manage the VMware based virtualized infra
- Good Knowledge and experience in PowerShell/Batch commands/scripting
- Knowledge with Cloud platforms (Azure) and monitoring tools (Liquidware/Sentinel) will be an added advantage
- Good Knowledge in ITIL Process [Incident/Request/Change/Problem/Knowledge/Asset]
Principle Accountabilities
- Product life cycle management of Citrix Suite products like XenApp, XenDesktop, Storefront, Web interface , NetScaler VPX
- Partners with various Infrastructure & Application tower leads to assess new technologies (e.g. upgrades, Win11, O365, and Cloud) and solutions that may be leveraged for the enterprise.
- Can support emerging Cloud technologies (Azure, AWS, Horizon or Frames)
- Performs and oversees continuous system health checks, upgrades of Citrix infra.
- Performs data management services, server tuning, Increase reliability and enhance efficiencies by implementing 3rd party tools and scripts.
- Ensures compliance to security standards, policies and guidelines
- Ensures that external and internal regulations and policies governing data management are met, including regulations concerning security, audit and privacy.
- Provides business continuity through back-up and restore procedures, and periodic testing of outage scenarios.
- Co-ordination with L2/L3 support team for the outages/escalated issues.
- Provides training to team members and end user training docs preparation
- Automate the environment and continuous process enhancement
Responsibilities
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ensures/maintain resilient and reliable Citrix infrastructure for the better end user experience.
- Plans, deploys, and documents new Citrix infrastructure components based on organization’s requests.
- Co-ordinates and works with vendors to resolve problems and issues with Citrix Infra
- Assists in planning and deployment of disaster recovery procedures
- SSL Certificate management for Citrix Components
- Advanced trouble shooting skills and identify the severity of the issue, ability to resolving issues quickly to account/customer satisfaction.
- Extensive application debugging experiencing utilizing Citrix tools, Microsoft System Internals Tools, Wireshark or other packet capturing tools.
- Ensures IT Leadership is aware of all known and identified risks to system availability, performance, reliability and security
- Certify Citrix components like VDA/CWA and co-ordinate deployment in the environment
- Experience with products like XenApp, XenDesktop, Storefront, Web interface , NetScaler VPX, Citrix DaaS, Citrix Cloud Gateway Service
