Lead Primary Engineer is the technical guarantor of the proper performance of design works conducted for high-voltage (HV) substations, in matter of committed design budget (man days), deadline and Quality, in line with Customer expectation, while promoting ease of installation, operation and maintenance of the system.
You will be responsible to plans basic and detailed design activities, manages & oversees detailed execution progress, delivers required engineering documentation for procurement, manufacturing and site erection associated to concerned activity, based on Customer specifications and requirement, and internal standards. Also to coordinates elaboration of documents done internally or through subcontracting.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Designing and integrating essential components for a High Voltage substation or HVDC Substation in compliance with global and local standards.
Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for efficient substation layout implementation, and design calculations
Developing comprehensive design specifications and supporting procurement activities.
Managing project strategies, risks, and customer relationships for successful project delivery.
Ensuring streamlined documentation management and facilitating effective design processes.
Collaborating with construction teams to incorporate valuable design insights for enhanced project outcomes.
Manage engineering subcontractors for specific work packages.
Support site teams to ensure smooth erection and capitalize lessons learnt.
Required Qualification/Experience
Education: a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field. A master’s degree may be preferred.
10+ years engineering experience in the design of HV substations, Primary Engineering, including layout design , component selection and Primary Calculations. Experience with CAD software Autodesk CAD tools, Revit, BIM360, ACC and substation design tools is a plus.
Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of HV substation design principles, industry standards, and regulations. Familiarity with protection and control systems is advantageous.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in using design and simulation, calculation software. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Communication: Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide
Desired Skills
Project Management: Basic project management skills, including the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing project requirements.
Familiar with project technical management processes, preferably in a multi-disciplinary team’s context with multiple interfaces
Certifications: Professional engineering certification or licensure is preferred.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure designs meet safety, performance, sustainability, and compliance requirements.
First experience in managing subcontracted design work package (preferably externally)
Experience in technical problem solving
Knowledge of Transmission or Distribution industry
Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide.
