Job Description

As a Safety Officer in the 12N25 role, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a safe and hazard-free environment within your assigned area. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety protocols and procedures that align with governmental regulations and the organization's standards. Your expertise will guide the identification of potential workplace hazards and the creation of strong contingency plans to mitigate risks. In addition, you will conduct consistent safety training and drills to prepare staff for emergency situations. This role requires a keen eye for detail, a strong foundation in safety management principles, and effective communication skills to promote a culture of safety across all organizational levels.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures according to regulations and standards.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
  • Lead safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Monitor workplace operations to ensure adherence to safety policies and regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain reports documenting safety inspections and violation incidents.
  • Provide safety training and education to staff on proper safety procedures and equipment use.
  • Investigate workplace accidents to identify causes and recommend preventive measures.
  • Coordinate emergency response drills to evaluate staff readiness and response efficiency.
  • Advise management on safety improvements and necessary modifications to protocols.
  • Collaborate with health and safety committees to strengthen safety initiatives.
  • Ensure that safety equipment is provided and maintained according to safety requirements.
  • Stay updated with latest safety legislation, codes, and best practices in the industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a safety officer role or similar position within the industry.
  • Strong knowledge of safety legislation, regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify and rectify safety breaches effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for training and reporting purposes.
  • Certifications such as OSHA, NEBOSH, or relevant safety management credentials desired.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in high-pressure situations.
